Sacred Lineage & Heritage
Amit Chakraborty belongs to an illustrious Samavedi Brahmin family, originally bearing the surname Bandhopadhyay, of the Radhi Shreni with Shandilya Gotra. His family has preserved and practiced Vedic rituals across five generations, establishing a legacy of spiritual authority and scholarly excellence.
His great-grandfather, Late Aghorchandra Churamani, was a Rajpurohit (Royal Priest) in a king’s court and was honored with the prestigious title “Churamani” for his exceptional spiritual wisdom and service.
His grandfather, Late Radhagobindo Devsharma, was a distinguished scholar holding Triple Master’s degrees in English, Bengali, and Sanskrit. He served as a teacher at Sanskrit College and later as Headmaster of Badra High School, Howrah. In recognition of his contributions, the Government of West Bengal established a Sanskrit learning institution in his honor.
He was a student of the renowned Dr. Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay, and among his students was Sri Mritunjay Bandhopadhyay, former Education Minister of West Bengal.
He also played a significant spiritual role in society by:
- Inaugurating Agarpara Swarnakutir Gobindo Temple
- Establishing Kali Temple and Grohor Temple in Kadamtala, Howrah
- Conducting grand Durga Puja and Radha Gobindo Puja at his residence
- Performing extensive research on Radha Gobindo (Lord Krishna) in Nabadwip
Family Tradition Continues
Amit’s father, Sri Satrughna Saran Chakraborty, has continued this sacred tradition by conducting Kali Puja, Durga Puja, and Gruhapravesh ceremonies across Howrah and Ranchi. A graduate in Accountancy Honors from Kolkata University and a retired Senior Railway Official, he remains actively engaged in performing pujas upon request.
